Pentax K5 won't shoot in AF mode

Hi I have a K5 Pentax, if I have it on auto focus it won't shoot, It will on manual focus. I also have an istDL my previous camera it has been sitting for a while, without batteries. I put in brand new batteries, but am having trouble getting the camera to start up, batteries show no power on the camera screen yet they are brand new, I have tried to separate batches, and still shows the same on screen.

In AF.S, the subject has to be detected as in focus in order for the camera to release the shutter. Is your lens also in AF mode so the camera can focus?

What kinds of batteries have you tried in the DL? If rechargeables don't work, try alkalines or lithium.
