Tokina lens not mounting to k1000

Hi, I知 new to this forum so I知 not exactly sure how it works...
But recently I purchased an RMC Tokina 28-70mm 3.5-4.5 lens online. Was told it would mount to my Pentax K1000 and when it finally arrived i realized it actually will not mount. I知 super bummed and would love if someone could tell me what the problem is.

Tokina made lenses for a number of lens mounts. Are you sure it is actually for K-mount? A picture of the lens mount and any and all writing on the lens would help diagnose the problem.

If it is indeed a K-mount lens it is possible there is something bent.

It should be marked which mount on the black part around the rear element of the lens. Usually P/K for Pentax. Maybe P/KA.

Well, I can’t figure out how to post photos on here unfortunately but I’ve been looking for specific markings on the lens that would help determine the mount. I see o/om on the black part on the bottom.

Click on "manage attachments" below the post editor, and you can upload your photos there. They will automatically show up in your post.

But in any case, see the post above for why the lens isn't mounting.

Well no wonder it won’t fit then. How frustrating. Guy I bought it from told me that the man who sold it to him said it was for a Nikon, but when he tried to mount it it wouldn’t. Took it to a camera shop and they mounted it to a Pentax perfectly, so he says anyway. He even listed it on the site that it’s specifically for Pentax... And told me it would fit mine. Lost $15 but at least now I know where to look for the mount markings. Thank you for the help anyway.

Location of the mount type markings varies from lens to lens and manufacturer. Typically they are on the rear of the lens or on the barrel near the rear of the lens.

Or there is no marking at all...

It's useful to learn to identify at least some of the most common mounts...

First question - the obvious one - Is it a K mount .. The Evolution of the Pentax K-mount - Articles and Tips | PentaxForums.com

If it is a K mount .. Then there are a few possible reasons why it will not mount ..

A picture of the lens ( pictures ) would help immensely . ( To identify the mount correctly ) ...

Plenty of K-mount zooms around, though the longer ones are usually better. Best to shoot primes on the shorter focal distances.
