I updated my K-S2 firmware to version 1.20 before mounting my new HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm f4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE lens. I fully extended the lens before turning on the power. I took extreme care due to reading several posts here and elsewhere and double checked everything. As others have reported, the lens will not focus automatically or manual. The camera won't even let me depress the shutter release button. I just received my camera back from Precision Camera to have aperture motor replaced and a complete cleaning. The camera works great with the 4-5.6/18-50mm lens and okay with 4-5.6/50-200mm (sometimes it has trouble choosing a focus point and just zooms in and out like it's confused hence the new lens). Could I possibly have just received a DOA lens? Please advise. Thanks for any and all advice! Kim
It does sound like the lens is DoA. Since it requires power to focus (even manually), there must be something wrong inside the lens if your 18-50mm is working without any issues. I would exchange the lens.
