Focusing ring on SMC Pentax-A 1:2 50mm lens

I recently purchased an inexpensive SMC Pentax-A 1:2 50mm lenses and immediately noticed that the focusing ring goes around 360 degrees continuously, but the lens not actually focus. I'm assuming that this lens is not working properly and I will need to replace it with a different lens.

As I recall to get at the screws that hold the focus ring to the helical you have to first remove the rubber ring and the press in the 3 or 4 tabs that hold the engraved name ring to remove the ring. Then it should just be a matter of setting the lens to infinity, aligning the focus ring and tightening the screws to the helical.

or send the lens back to the seller for a refund, if the lens was sold as a working item...
