Vivitar Series-1 28-105mm 2.8-3.8 Lens-VMC-67mm-Macro-Focusing-Zoom-Pentax-Mount

What's your opinion of this lens? I think this is the Cosina version. TIA.

I had mine for sale here for less than that. I like it a lot but it does not get used as much as it should. The second photo here was taken with my Vivitar on my KP.

I had one of those way back. Using the macro-focus mechanism was tricky.

I was on a 28-105 quest a few years ago and had this lens briefly. It was competent and fairly bright - even if you round up to f2.8 to f4, not many lenses are that fast in that focal range. It's probably bigger for that reason. It is a KA mount so you can control the aperture with the camera body. But at the long end, the lens will still allow you to set f2.8 because of limitations in the KA mount design. You won't actually get f2.8 light through the lens. Colors seemed to have a yellow tint. I agree that the price is high.

I ended up keeping a Pentax FA 28-105 f4-5.6 Power Zoom for my needs. Flash works easier with an AF zoom, the filter was smaller, weight is similar, colors are better.

I have the dfa 28-105mm my go to lens, but the 2.8 is very enticing. When out with TER-OR he used the 100mm 2.8 macro and got some terrific shots. I'm vacillating/ debating between the both.

Here is a spider taken at 28mm, in a somewhat low contrast situation. K-50 from last September.
Any unclear parts are due to my selection of aperture and unsteadiness while trying to shoot the image, not due to the lens.
