Are you placing the BIN file in the root directory? There should be nothing in the root except the DCIM folder.

Is your battery fully charged? If the battery is low the update will not proceed.

make sure you download the correct v1.5 firmware update (ie. fwdc228b.bin) file and copy it to the root directory of the SD card and place it in slot 1 of the k-1 camera. If the camera does not recognize the bin file, then it will not do the update.

You can not just copy the compressed file (8598kb) to the SD card, you have to uncompress it first (file size 18438kb). When you uncompress it, the file will be expanded to another directory.
Also, make sure the file is in the root directory... does not matter if there are other folders there.

Do you have an existing copy in the folder that you are extracting the file in? Delete or move it as the BIN file may be getting renamed when you extract it. If the file name is incorrect on the camera it won't load.

Pentax K-1 Firmware v1.50 Released - Firmware Updates | PentaxForums.com

Make sure you clear out the old update files from your computer, then retry. Can you show the file extensions in your file manager?

I always use a clean card and not one that has been used for photo files. It doesn't have to be really large in size - just large enough for the update. I think I remember somewhere of problems when trying to use a shared card with other residual files on it???

It's not about copying the right one. First you need to decompress the .zip on your computer (right click>extract all) then open the extracted folder and copy the file inside to the SD.
