Hood for a K Prime 50mm F1.4?

So I'm getting to the point where I'm bumping into the need for a hood for my 50mm when taking night shots. The problem is, Unlike the later 50mm F1.4's, it has a 52mm filter ring rather than a 49mm one. I'm looking at the Nikon HS-14 as a potential option, but I'm looking for suggestions before I start buying.

There are several Nikon one's that work well.
HR-4 is another. HS-9 is one. The HS-14 is meant for a 105 f/2.8 so I assume you are using this on crop?

Astrophotography actually. I'm trying to eliminate as much stray light as possible and the HS-14 looks comparable to the Pentax 2.8/120mm 3.5/135mm 4/150mm hood.

Better buy the 49 mm leaf type or collapsible rubber.

But will that work on the K Prime with the larger diameter filter ring?

This ^ ^ ^

I use a similar style hood with my Pentax-K 55/1.8, the "normal" style for FF film and the "telephoto" style for APS-C. The hood opening accepts a 58mm pinch-type cap. I have been using eBay seller "heavystar" for years for this sort of thing...

Follow the UV filter size to get the correct hood size.
HS 14 is not for your lens.

Wouldn't that vignette?

Buy the Pentax OEM hood, here is an example:

You have a lot of options. I went with a telephoto length cheap metal hood for an old F 50 1.7 I picked up recently for cheap (bought an old PZ-10 with the lens on it for $40). No vignetting at all and based on how far out I can extend a paper wrapped around the new hood, I could have gone nearly an inch longer on the hood without seeing it in pics. I'm shooting APS-C, though. On FF, I suspect longer would be a problem. Maybe even the hood I have would vignette on FF; I don't know.

Well, to simplify things, my K-5 is an APS-C and not a full frame. (I really need to add a camera list to my signature.)

That said, in the interim, I decided to go with a 52mm collapsible rubber hood. This is because I wanted to start using it last night and my 28mm F2.8 also has a 52mm filter ring.

In that case you can get away with a longer narrower hood. But it likely needs to be one for an 85mm not a 100+mm. Also I wouldn't use a hood designed for a narrow aperture since vignetting will likely occur. I haven't done any testing or math but this seems like a promising hood to try:

Pentax MH-RB 52mm LensHood: Pentax-F & FA 85mm Soft Focus Lens | eBay
(Pentax 85mm Soft Focus hood)

(This may not be a rational choice - it may be too narrow - but it is a start.)
