Crop mode on K-1

Hello,
I have the k1. Can I put it in crop mode, and use some of the long focal length DA lenses?
Thank you,
Terry

Yes. You can use several of them in FF mode as well.

You can use DA lenses in crop mode and FF mode. Some will vignette in FF mode, some wont.

15. By default crop mode will automatically turn itself on for non-FF lenses.

Hi Peter,
Wow 16mp. I don't think I'll do it. I'll settle for a 200mm full frame lens.
I'm glad you replied, because I have a question I need to ask you. You told me before, but I have forgotten. How do I set my camera to use my ND filters?
Thank you,
Terry

Attach it to the lens. You don't have to do anything on the camera

Whether you use crop mode or FF mode the image circle projected by any lens is identical and will cover the same amount of pixels (with the proviso that some lenses will not entirely cover the FF sensor). So cropping a FF image to the size of a cropped image will give you an identical pixel count.

Thank you, Peter.
Again, how do I set my camera to use ND filters? I want to count down the shutter speed with my fingers, as you once put it.
Thank you,
Terry

Use manual exposure mode and meter for the scene without a filter. Put the filter on the lens. Then if it is a 10 stop filter, adjust the shutter speed by 10 stops.

Just to chime in, I have not a single APS_c lens that gives me less than 20 MP cropped if you shoot in FF mode. Let me know what lens you plan to use and I'll run some tests for it if I have it. Even my DA 55-300 gives me close to 20-24 MP.

70mm, ƒ9 crops nicely to 24 MP.

Thank you, Norm. Can you recommend a good third party 200mm lens?

I use the DA*200 ƒ2.8

On the K-1

On the K-3 with the HD DA 1.4 TC

Third party 200 for Pentax? I actually don't know of any, maybe check the lens data base.

There was a thread having to do with ND filters recently that I posted in. Below is a shortcut to the post I placed in case you are interested. Of course there are other posts there that you can observe also if needed. Please note that you do not need to meter prior to placing an ND filter on your lens. It may be a preference to use that method or not, but is not completely necessary.
