Green button and M mode combo did the trick.
And if you want to shoot only wide open you can still use Av.

oh yeah thanks! I probably will do that (unless I want some hex shaped bokeh from it - which it should do a couple stops faster than my Tokina wide zoom)

NorbertK,
If those old manual lenses ever start to frustrate you too much, just pack them up and send them to me. I'll give them a good home.

thanks JB - I get far more frustrated, and sooner, at myself for lack of knowledge and experience and inability to dedicate time decently to my hobby, than frustrated at my gear :-) can I pack myself up and send myself to you? I could use a good home!

My wife and I are happy empty nesters (except for 2 dachshunds) and I think she would kill me. Just put you hands on your gear as often as possible, read here and other places, take a ton of experimental images (with digital it only costs battery charge). You will learn something with each shutter click. There are some really knowledgeable people on this forum and they don't beat you up for their ego inflation. Ask questions, ignore any blustering people, and take advantage of the knowledge.
