SMC Pentax 50 mm f1.4 screws size

Hello I had given my lens for repair as the metal ring in front of the front element, where the SMC Pentax logo ring screws on, around the front element, was loose and it was moving.

Today as I had my lens hood on and was taking pictures the loose issue appeared again and at some point the hood with the SMC logo ring and the metal ring that has the three screws that fits on the lens fell off. I could not find the third screw. The other two where on the metal ring with the screw holes. Came back and screw then back on and now everything is stable again...

Anyone knows what size those screws are and if the are normal screws or something special made for lens?

You can not buy now just the screws only. What you can do is buy a junk camera where in you can get screws of same size. Just leave it unscrewed for one, it will still work.

Maybe use a bit of loctite (or how's it called) so they dont unscrew anymore.

As I recall Asahi likes using 1.7mm diameter screws for most of their lenses. The parts list for the 50mm f1.7 shows M1.7 × 4 (1.7mm diameter by 4 mm long). With small screws like these the thread pitch is standard to the diameter so you don't have to know the pitch.

Search on "micro screws" or the specific size to find several sources that sells small screws. You want pan head screws.

screws for lens

I got a screw to hold the front ring for a Pentax lens from a old Hard drive.

This may help....eye doctors and stores that sell glasses usually stock extremely small screws for eyeglass repairs. If you get someone who is helpful, they may be able to find a replacement screw for you. Or bring it to me in the Toronto area! Best of luck.

Delving into several different lenses resulted in buying a couple different assortments to have common sizes on hand: The M1.7 were hard to find in an assortment, and I had to buy those on their own. Pay attention to head styles!
