SMC-Pentax FA 28-105mm F4-5.6 Lens problem

I recently acquire the a lens, the SMC-Pentax FA 28-105mm F4-5.6
I have an issue, where the lens will go from 28-65mm but it won't go any higher, it seem the lens is stuck.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I'm using Pentax k3.
Thanks.

If the lens is new or still in warranty, semd it back or call the warranty, its not normal and forcing the lens can potencialy do more damage

Is your lens the version with Power Zoom ? If so, try pushing/pulling the zoom ring between the two positions a few times.

Not sure if the power zoom feature works with modern cameras.

There are three FA versions of the 28-105. The Power Zoom is the best optically and one of the other two is a rebagged Tamron. Which one is it?

Yea my zoom is the power zoom. Aperture ring works fine, the auto focus works fine too. I'm a bit dense but "two position" is where.

You push or pull the whole zoom ring forwards and backwards. When the words POWER ZOOM are visible you are in power zoom mode. When they are hidden you are not

I was thinking on the new "D"-FA 28-105.... my bad

Still, it may be not viable "economical speaking" repairing or send them to repair (even possibly to repair), i do not have experience with that lens so im not familiar the kind of image quality the lens can produce on those FL range

I took mine apart once and it's complicated inside. I think there are four concentric aluminum barrels and 13 elements, which is why the lens is so heavy. Each barrel has grooves with nylon rollers in them that control their movement when you zoom. Probably one of those rollers is broken so one barrel isn't moving correctly. The broken part is probably hard to find except within another lens from the same era. Those multi-barrel systems are tricky to get back together correctly because every piece must be exactly right, and if you forgot how it went together, you'd never stumble on the right combination. It's probably not impossible to fix, but it might be too much trouble to be worth it. PM me, I'll sell mine cheap.

I have one, and it was fantastic on film. On the K1, itís pretty good.

That said, the new one is supposed to be fantastic...

I use mine at both ends and through the middle. I love the versatility. And the power zoom works on a K1. None of the fancier features do, but I donít miss them.
