My K-r cannot auto focus

My K-r cannot auto focus any more.

1) I can use manual focus.
2) Change to auto focus, half-press shutter, the camera make the lens (DA18-55) move back and forth, but cannot focus.
3) Change on other lens, the problem remains.

I would be grateful if someone could troubleshoot this, and tell me what I can do. I won't repair it if the repair charge is high, as I can use manual focus in stead.

Have you tried focus on any objects closer than infinity and still seen the problem?

Of course. And the environment is bright enough.

Perhaps you have a dirty autofocus sensor. Probably a long shot but perhaps worth giving that area of the camera's internals some blasts of air. Here's a link showing where the sensor can be found, as well as how phase detection AF works. How Phase Detection Autofocus Works
Good luck!

I had a similar problem with a K10D. Somehow, the center focusing point had gotten shifted to the lower right corner. Once I moved it back to the center, it worked fine.

Did you mean to clean the sensor? Just did, but still cannot focus.
And thanks for the help and the article.

ore info on the subject:autofocus inaccuracy,
Thank you.

I will try to clean again later.

Manual focus works for me, so don't want to repair it as this old machine I bought in 2011 worths less in money. It's the memory for a beginner amateur that counts for.
