K-1 Flash Sync

I have a K-1 and know that flash sync speed is 1/200. It won't let you trigger a flash any faster in my experience. Yesterday, I did some photos and I was shooting at 1/200 and noticed the curtain (I think it is) causing some of the black band that happens when you shoot above flash sync (with other cameras). You can see in the images a very clear change in exposure. I posted three images because it is always along the same long edge.

Has anyone else had this problem? Thoughts? Pictures are resized and exported from DNG to JPG.

To discard curtain issue, try taking photo with the camera normal and upside down. Sync speed is the upper limit before the camera start using the "curtain" for hi speed shots.

Was the flash on or off camera? Which flash was used?

I have read this can happen with certain flashes, where the sync does not quite sync exactly.

Use 1/180 or slower and you wont have the problem.

It can be that the remote trigger doesn’t support 1/200. For example, 1/125 is recommended for the ones I have... Maybe just try a slower Speed...

Yep, because shutter speed is irrelevant in the studio just go with 1/125s.

Have to echo others - I have seen results where some remote triggers are not fast enough to actually fire in the sync speed accurately.

Remember that there is a small delay in each link of the remote triggering of flashes. A delay in the transmitter and the receiver and in the firing strobe can be enough for the second curtain to begin closing before the flash/strobe has fired. Just drop the shutter speed bit to 1/180, 1/160 or 1/125 and this problem should go away.

Regards

Chris

Awesome yall thanks. Agree with everyone that dripping shutter speed will alleviate the issue just wanted to make sure their wasn't any issues with the camera. Really great detail and range with the K-1.

with the Cactus V6II Triggers it should be no problem. You can do HSS with nearly every flash! And if it is not working exact you can tune the trigger to eleminate the little delay.

The problem with HSS is that it cuts power output/distance and requires P-TTL to be used.. This may not be suitable for the OP's requirements.
