Could be a combination of minimum focus distance/incorrect focus, slow shutter speed, or other factors. Could you re-post a photo with EXIF data intact (or just paste the metadata), and also tell us more about the tripod/setup?

That definitely looks like motion. Are you using the 2s timer when you take the picture or using a remote? Is the tripod strong enough to carry this very heavy lens? Any movement at 600mm is going to make a mess of things.

As Adam mentioned, it would help to see the EXIF data, as well as your shooting method. Are you using a tripod? What shutter speed? If using a tripod, are you disabling the Shake Reduction (Using the 2-second timer automatically disables the SR)?

That's a pretty valuable lens -- take care with it. A 600mm is hard to handle. You must use a fast shutter speed and rock-solid support. It does look like motion blur there.

enter the correct value of the focal length when turning on the camera so that the stabilizer works well

Send it over to me Barry. I'll happily cover postage from NZ to test it in Adelaide

But seriously, without details of shutter speed, camera support technique and focus method, any attempt to diagnose your problem is futile.

Try live view and you will realize what level sharpness is available. From there keep stabilizing etc...

K10D doesn't have live view

If it is an FA lens, be sure to set the aperture ring to A, then the shake reduction will work properly. That said, when using a tripod, the shake reduction should be turned off, as it may cause more trouble than its worth. Try using manual focus rather than autofocus.

I am thinking you are below the minimum focusing distance. The blur is not in one direction, as movement may indicate, the lines are "thicker". knowing the shutter speed, etc., would be helpful.

Come on, guys. I know you're trying to be helpful but it doesn't help to throw out guesses or inaccurate information.

There is no value to enter. The camera will automatically read the focal length of all A, F, FA, FA-J, D-FA, and DA lenses. If the lens was a K- or M-series lens, then your advice would apply, but it's an FA lens.

This was addressed above. The K10D doesn't use Live View.

The aperture ring has nothing to do with SR. The ring can be set to A, or any manual number and SR will still work.

not plain A -- only autofocus lenses does it set it automatically

My mistake about setting the aperture ring, but I recon I'm right about switching off shake reduction when on a tripod.

Whether it was on or off, it wouldn't make as much of a difference as shown here. Actually it usually helps even on the tripod for 500mm+ lenses. That makes me miss the external switch for SR that the K10D had -- that was nice. Seems like the OP has abandoned this thread anyway...hopefully he knows what he has there in that lens.
