Autowinding winding film back into canister!

today i picked up a random Pentax PC-333 from my local store and when I go to put film in i line it up and shut the door and it keeps winding all the way through to 36 so I opened it because I could hear that it wasnt grabbing onto anything and I see the film leader has gone back into the canister, I have tried so many times but still the same result! what can I do to fix this??

I’ve seen this happen on other compacts where it basically meant the camera always thinks it’s at the end of the roll and will never wind forward...

You may be able to exercise other parts of the film transport mechanism, depending on what switches it. I’d start by rolling the takeup spool and sprocket gently with my fingers to try and get it to wind forward with the back door open and no film. You may have to trick a door-closed switch with something (q-tips with one end removed work)

Tricky! Something in its tiny little brain thinks it should rewind the film. Most likely, the rewind button is stuck or corroded. That's where I would start.
