K2000 Will Not Turn On

I got a Pentax K2000 today, but it will not turn on.
I cleaned the battery contacts with contact cleaner (they weren't dirty).
Tried new alkaline batteries and fully charged NI-MH batteries, but nothing.
Anyone have any suggestions? Or should I sell it for parts?

Hello,

Clean the contacts again but trying to lightly scrape them. Sometimes corrossion is not seen and you need to scrape a little. Also, carefully bend the contacts to ensure more pressure against the batteries.
Hope it works!

Thanks,

Put in a set of new or fully charged batteries and let the camera sit for a day or two and see what happens. Or, try a set of lithium batteries. Good luck.

I have the K2000, wonderful camera, but don't use it anymore. I got a store display model, so when I took home and put in Fresh 'Cheap' Alkaline batteries it didn't start up. So I remember buying Lithium AA batteries and putting it in, it started up. There is a setting in the camera where you can tell what type of battery is being used, change it to Auto and it will start up with cheap batteries too. When the camera became old, even fully charged Eneloops depletes fast.

It was picky on NI-MH batteries too. It only liked Energizer, Rayovac and Eneloop rechargeable NI-MH batteries. Duracell it absolutely hated lol. Panasonic and Sony was ok.

How is the memory card? Is it good? Is it brand name? Have you tried another one?

I tried it with a few different SD cards (Sandisk).
None of the above suggestions have worked, but I haven't tried it with lithium batteries.
I'm going to get some. Will let you know if they work.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Hard luck. Any chance you can return it? Did you buy as-is?

I have found this works if you keep turning the camera on, leaving it on for a few minutes, taking out and re-inserting the batteries, turn on again for a few minutes. Repeat this half a dozen times and then give up. I have tried this on two camera models, K100ds and K-m (2000) and been perhaps lucky as they both started working.
I use lithium batteries, not tried it with re-chargables.

Well....Surprise surprise
I said what the heck and tried the K2000 with the same Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries I had tried 6 weeks ago.
The camera turned on and I was able to take a few pics which look fine, BUT the screen doesn't work when I try to display the pics or see the menu.
Any suggestions???
