Red over-saturation

I use a Pentax K3. It seems to have a default preset which over-saturates REDS. This is particularly noticeable with skin tones, which makes every face seem very florid. Of course, I can correct this readily in Photoshop, but I was hoping someone here might guide me into how to reduce red saturation levels in the camera itself. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum, exposing for Reds is always more difficult with most camera brands, try under exposing the image as this usually helps.

True... unless they have a bad case of sunburn.

But I forget that I always under expose by 2/3 of stop, as a matter of course and sometimes by an awful lot more.

Yep nothing ruins a picture quicker than clipping the highlights.
Like this one was 4 stops under...

And he has just gone offline -- I wouldn't bother responding more until he responds.

Hi Michael. Always nice to have another Aussie on board.

Reds are tricky. I suspect the difference between brands may have more to do with their baked-in JPEG profiles than anything to do with the RAW system. As I only shoot RAW and always expect to process my images I've never really considered it to be a problem.

I would welcome some sample images, which illustrate your problem.

It is likely you merely dropped your Iso to go 4 stops under. That means there is no down side.
Of course to be pedantic how do you define this as "4 stops under"? After all the lights are still clipped. I guess you mean 4 stops under what the camera suggested.
EDIT It is obviously a tripod shot so you were probably at base Iso anyway. So that means the shadow areas you pulled back up have elevated noise but you have total control over the highlights. A great trade off.

There is literally no red in this image. Why is it relevant to this thread?

You are quite correct, my apologies for the thread commandeering.

Conversation started as a result of my comment, concerning under exposure to retain Red detail, apologies again to all.

Use Adobe RGB as your primary color space. Adobe RGB give some extra headroom for the red tones not to be compressed as much as with sRGB.
