Loading current firmware in my KP

Hello folks,
I just received my new KP, yesterday. I am trying to load the new firmware in my camera, and following the online instructions. They say to turn the camera on while holding down on the menu button. But, when I do that, all it says is card not formatted. What am I doing wrong? Thank you very much.

Make sure you unzip the firmware download and place the single file xxx.bin in the root directory of a clean formatted SD card.

The card was formatted before I downloaded the firmware.

I've tried it quite a few times before posting for help.

I'm not sure how to unzip the file. I do have the bin file on a clean card. My Son has always done these for me, but but now he's away at college.

I just formatted the card again, and reloaded the firmware, inserted the card in the KP, and got the same message. I'll have to figure out what unzipping the file means, maybe that's what I'm missing.

Are you formatting the card in camera? That's the best place to do it to ensure there are no issues.

When you download the firmware, which I strongly suggest you do again,.......Latest PENTAX KP Firmware Update : Software Downloads | RICOH IMAGING you have a file which has the extension .zip

Once downloaded, right click on that file and choose unzip or extract here.

Place the extracted file only .bin into the SD card root.

How are you performing the last procedure ?

I'm dragging it into my sd card icon. I will follow your instructions carefully. Thank you, Peter.

Similar to as has been already said, after downloading the firmware from the site, open the zip folder (unzip (I think it is a double click on the folder)), make sure that the SD card has been formatted in the camera which is going to accept the new firmware, move the bin file (Fwdc232b.bin) that came from the zip folder to the SD card (not into a folder, just leave it where you can see it on the SD card), then place the SD card into the camera and proceed per the update instructions that were also mentioned above (from Ricoh site). It is a step by step procedure, following the instructions (Ricoh site provided) will provide a simple approach.

This is similar to what you should see on the card, if done correctly:

(Not KP firmware shown - this is for a K-1II, but the location of the file on the SD card should be the same.)

This is such a common question - makes me wonder why Pentax/Ricoh don't just make available the un-ZIP'ed file. Unless it is huge, this would save so many problems.

Unless you are a bit of a Windows maven, who knows what a ZIP file is or what to do with it.

Is this a replacement for the KP you owned 6 months ago? What happened to the other one?

K-1 and KP latest firmware - PentaxForums.com
I sold my original K-1 and KP to buy the K-1 Mark II. I missed having the small, well built body with excellent image quality, so I bought another one.

That is correct. His firmware is for a K1II. Your firmware is for a KP
