My K-S2 still autofocusses in full manual mode, why?

My camera moves the focus motor when I press the shutter to take a manually focussed photo.
For example I set the mode dial to M, flick the AF/M selector to M, manually focus .
But the focussing noise sounds when I press the shutter.
What am I doing wrong please?

Welcome to the Forums!

That AF/M selector physically pulls in and out the screw drive on the camera's lens mount.
Try flipping it without a lens attached and see if the screw drive moves with the selector..?

Is it actually focusing or is it just making a noise?

I believe it is the SR noise.

When you move the AF/MF switch to MF, ensure that the switch is completely at the end of its travel to MF, otherwise the camera may still attempt to AF.

Yes, I have made this mistake on a number of occasions.

It should not focus with the selector all the way on MF.

Thanks vmax9.
All auto lenses eg DA 50mm 1.8.
Also with F 28-80mm.
Even with the vintage Hanimex 28mm f2.8 I still hear the noise.
Thanks

You are absolutely spot on.
The AF/MF switch does not retract the motor drive.
It simply sticks out all the time.
Any solution for this?
Thanks.

It actually does focus.
But it was disruptive when I tried to take macro shots.
I have just confirmed that the motor drive permanently sticks out whether the AF switch is on AF or MF.
Just wonder how to fix this.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks Grahame,
Someone suggested I switch between AF and MF with the lens off and I observed that the motor drive sticks out all the time.
I think that's the problem.

I have checked and despite fully flicking the switch the drive end just sticks out.

Most likely the inner part of the AF-M switch is misaligned.

This usually happens when somebody disassembled the camera and did not know how to assemble it proberly.
Happens most of the time when people replace (or fiddle) with the solenoid.

Read my manual for replacing the solenoid of the K-S1:
Manual: Solenoid replacement: Pentax K-S1 - PentaxForums.com

I have explained it in detail there.

The K-S2 is pretty similar to be opened but you have 3 hidden screws at the right side.
And you don't have to unscrew this screw deep down in the batterybox.

Like Photogem said, has the camera ever been apart? I did the same thing when taking apart my K30. During the initial re-assembly the AF drive pin was somehow misaligned. Luckily I caught it before I put all the screws in and was able to fiddle with it until it operated correctly.

@italchux:
In the meantime I posted a manual for the K-S2:
