RAW mode

I have a K100D and I can't figure out how to change the setting to RAW, and the manual isn't helping. It says I need to select a certain option on the playback menu palette, but that option isnít there for some reason. A short how-to of the menu to set it would be great. Thanks- Ethan

Both PEF and DNG are simply different variations of raw format.

In the menu find "Quality Level." The options are RAW, ***, **, *. RAW is obviously RAW, Any of the stars (*) are JPEG compression levels, with *** being the lowest compression.

If I may add for clarity, that the *** JPEGs are compressed the least among all the JPEG options, i.e., this setting will preserve the most data and produce the best image quality.

The raw data is compressed somewhat, but it's a "lossless" form of compression and has no effect on image quality (or so they say).

Lossless compression doesn't reduce image quality, which is why it doesn't reduce image file size a lot.

1. Power up the camera.
2. Press "Menu" button.
3. Using 4 way controller down button scroll down to " Quality Level"
4. Press the four way controller right button, this takes you to the quality settings.
5. Use the 4 way controller up-down buttons to high-light "RAW"
6. Press "OK" button two times.

Now you are in RAW mode, confirm this by pressing the "Info" button. It will indicate the recording quality setting.

Unfortunately K100D does not have that option.

Probably you can't be in Green mode - the option might show on the screen but it's grayed out and you can't access it. Some or all scene modes might also be similar. They need to create a JPG to create their scene effect.

The K100D will shoot RAW in the "AUTO PICT" mode.
