The little rechargeable memory back-up battery was/is rated for 50 full discharge cycles, after that it was done.
Only way to prolong the life of it was to put in fresh set of batteries right-away and not let it sit w/o any while charging.
This is little late now I guess.

Supercapacitor Information ? Battery University

Just like anything else.
They are pretty good for having a rating for about million re-charge cycles, just not a lot of stored energy.
Anyhow... no super-caps in Pentax so far, just rechargeable lithium's.
Indeed, the battery has been identified as this one:
MS414GE | Seiko Instruments Inc. Micro Energy Division

50 recharge cycles at 100% depletion vs 500 cycles at 20% depletion according to the specs. When Pentax/Hoya was running the support website the FAQs on some of the cameras gave full discharge and recharge times for the backup battery. As I recall (probably incorrectly) it was something like 16-24 fully recharge and 24-36 hrs to deplete the battery or maybe the other way around. You might be able to find the actual numbers on archive.org.
