K-5 and FA 50 1.4 lens

I just picked up the lens FA 50 1.4 for less light shooting, but It doesn't seem to work on my camera. When I turn on the camera in the LCD a F just blinks Won't focus or take a shot. Is the lens screwed up?

Clean contacts? This is not the new KAF4 lens, right?

Be sure to set the aperture ring to "A". (if this is indeed the FA lens)

Put it on "A" and clean the contacts both in your camera and your lens.

The link to the SMC Pentax-FA 50mm F1.4 is the same as the link to the HD Pentax-D FA* 50mm F.14 SDM AW.

If the original poster had picked up an M lens, we'd have to go to the K-5 menu item that permits using the aperture ring on the lens, but A lenses don't require that setting (Good to know if you have even older glass, though).

???

the link to the user reviews of the FA works for me and get you to the user reviews of that lens

the link to the user reviews of the D FA * works for me and gets you to the user review of that lens

if the op has the M model, I doubt that the initial FA would have been used ??

upon further research, there are problems with using the D FA * 50mm with a K 5:

Pentax K-5 with HD Pentax-D FA* 50mm F1.4 SDM AW
This combination is compatible w/ limitations. Some original features are not supported.

I meant the first link to the lens itself, the link to the user reviews is fine.

You're right; the original poster would not have an M lens if the lens has the initials FA. I was thinking of my own experiences with a 50mm f1.4 M lens on my K-5. My apologies.

thanks for clearing up my confusion

I don't think I set up a link based on the name but the user reviews

so I suggest you should consider reporting that problem to Adam

I think I remember noticing the same problem looking at the link on the raffle prizes, I clicked on it and got the wrong camera

I wouldn't apologize about adding the knowledge on the " M " lenses, it might help out others as you noted

I think that was the case.
