SP 1000 stuck mirror - clean and oil lock mechanism in the baseplate?

New-to-me Pentax SP 1000 body has a the mirror stuck in the up position.

After doing some reading, I saw a method where the lock mechanism part located behind the camera baseplate can be cleaned and oiled.

Did anybody attempt that?

It could be the mirror bumper turned to glue/tar

There are several videos on youtube for DIY fixes. Do a youtube search on Spotmatic mirror

If I recall the National Camera service manual for Spotmatics may address this issue:

If the mirror bumper isn't the cause, remove the bottom cover. You will see a lever with a spring running through it. If the lever is at the back of the camera push it hard all the way to the front. It should click into place. If it does, push the shutter button. If the shutter fires, that is all you need to do.
