Pentax KP problems

Wow! Its having a look like the shots were taken through a window pain??

As far as the dark exposure, the KP is designed for advanced and for pro photographers, so it does not have "scene" modes like the K-70, etc. have. One of those "scene" modes is for snow scenes. Such scene's like white snow or white sand at a beach, or sparking bright sunshine off water, can cause the camera's meter to over-react and reduce the overall exposure. These "scene" modes take that into account- just as an experienced photographer would do in anticipating the meter's reaction. But the KP does not have this feature. If there is a lot of bright area, snow, sky, bright water etc. as a percentage of your frame, the meter will thus over-react. The way to deal with that is you increase exposure usually by 1-2 stops depending on what percentage of snow, sky, etc. is in your frame. You can either put your mode dial on Manual mode and by watching the camera's meter reading then increasing manually, or if the camera's mode dial is set on any of the auto-exposure modes, you can use the +/- exposure compensation control to do this, as long as the control button is not user-programed to do another function. Button assignment is in the owner's manual. Did you buy this camera new?

I noticed in the exif info that somehow you have the camera's meter set to spot metering instead of the normal segmented/matrix metering. This should not be done until you are familiar with how to use spot metering. Set the metering back to its normal operation.

Also in the exif of the first picture there are two entries for exposure, one saying "program (auto)", then after "exposure mode" it says "manual". I do not know why there are two entries for exposure type, but in other pictures instead of "program (auto)" it says "Landscape mode". This makes me believe you have your camera's mode dial set on the green auto mode, so the camera is switching itself all around the Custom Image selections, trying to accommodate the spot meter which is at a different spot in different shots. First thing, for automatic exposure by the camera, put the mode dial to the "P" program mode instead. It is better for making any adjustments yourself like exposure comp, etc. which the green mode will not allow.

The camera is in green auto mode with a lens that is fixed and prime but you manually turn the focal length that causes the exposure parameters to change its value. Maybe you were thinking of a quick shift focus.
