K3II sensor dust removal failure?

Hey there,

I'm curious to know if anyone else with a K3II has had their sensor dust cleaning fail. I had mine set to start-up shut-down but now it doesn't do it. It just makes a 'squeal' like a flash is charging when shutting down/starting up.
Also, does anyone know of a pentax repair company near Kamloops/Vancouver B.C.?

I'd like to get it fixed if it's not a huge cost.

Out of curiosity, do you get the same squeal when doing the dust removal manually?

Yes I do, and it doesn't shake the camera like it used to. I'm not hugely concerned, a rocket blower will deal with it, but what I am worried about is that it might affect pixel shift and astrotracing.

k3II uses ultrasonic dust removal. It does not shake the camera as K-30. K3II dust removal produces high freguency sound, that's all you can hear

...and most people cannot hear that either. After all, its ultrasonic, meaning the frequency is above that of human hearing. The feature is supposed to be silent.

My camera always shook when it started with dust removal on.
unless i've been crazy for the last 4 years, I would feel it and hear it go "therdddd".
It doesn't do that anymore.

If so, and that camera is a K-3II, there has been something very wrong for the last four years. From page 25 of the user manual:

Cleans the sensor by applying high frequency (ultrasonic) vibrations.
The last flagship model to go "therdddd" was the K-7.

Well, I hope there is nothing wrong in your head. You have my sympathy for the diagnosis. Lupus is tough one. I pray your symptoms are mild and controllable.

It's been just about a year. I've sent a note to my rheumatologist. So far it has been manageable other than unable to work full time anymore. I've had a couple memory issues since Nov 2018, so it's not beyond reasoning that this isn't another one.
All in a days life of a lupie. heh

It is very much so, one cannot hear the ultrasonic dustremoval (K1/3/5/KP)
while the shaking of the other Pentax bodies is pretty obvious (I switch it off because I don't see the point of it, it just eats battery life)

My sympathy as well. Wish you the best!

Hi. My K-3ii used to do a tiny whistle sound when removing dust, but not anymore. I can't hear it now.

I have had my 17 years old nephew -that has way better hearing than I do nowadays- to try to hear the sound, but he can't either.

So, I believe the dust removal feature has officially stopped working and as I don't have a technical service in country, I have gotten used to it.

I remember a member of this forum even recorded the sound and shared the audio file with all of us.
