Firmware Update

Morning All,

In March this year I bough my first DSLR camera, Pentax K-70. Looking on the Pentax official site I discovered that the Firmware was O.O.D (Version 1.0) and required updating, the problem is that I am not very computer literate, this is what I have done so far :-

Downloaded the Firmware and saved it to my laptop's hard drive.
Bought a Sandisk Ultra 64GB SDXC and formatted it in the camera.

Can you tell me what to do now? I do not want to effect the camera's existing programme's,

A firmware update will, by definition, change your camera's programmes.

But I have upgraded the firmware of every camera I have owned whenever an update became available and never yet hit a snag. So don't worry.

Follow the instructions from the Ricoh website and you'll be fine. Specifically:

1) unzip the downloaded file and put the *.bin file in the root directory of the SD card.

2) ensure your camera's battery is fully charged.

What @Sandy_Hancock said.

A full recipe how to install the update is here (follow the points in 'Updating Procedure'):

Notice that Pentax firmware updates are cumulative, which means that the last update also contains all the previous updates. You can update from any version you have on the camera.

Also in general when I've done the Pentax firmware updates on my past Pentax cameras I've not lost my existing settings if that's what you meant by 'losing programming'.

I thank all of you who responded to my query, your answers were very helpful and enabled me to update my firmware to V. 1.1.
My biggest problem was unzipping the downloaded file but with help from Mr Google I managed it.
Thank you once again.
