Looks like the self timer lever is stuck in the cocked position. The lubrication gumming up in old cameras is a common problem. There are some DYI videos on youtube addressing stuck shutter as well as self timer problems. You can also find various service manuals for Spotmatics on pentax-manuals.com and other sources. Google search is your friend.

If you don't have the tools and expertise or skills for a DYA repair consider having it serviced professionally. Any old school camera technician should be able to work on a Spotmatic.

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

Yes, there is a problem with the shutter mechanism as it operates with the self-timer and yes, self-timer failures are very common with older cameras. While it is possible to attempt the fix yourself, freeing up this problem is something that would normally be addressed as part of a normal CLA (Clean Lube Adjust) along with stuff like shutter and meter calibration and replacing the light seals and mirror bumper materials. Your Spotmatic II is a fine tool and worth having the CLA done.

No criticism intended, but the whole thing looks in need of a little care and attention. However, whether it is financially worthwhile getting a CLA depends on how much it cost you. Good luck anyway.

I suspect the self timer has nothing to do with the shutter issue. Frequently when the shutter jams people will try using the self timer to see if that gets the shutter to fire. But yes, looks like it will need a bit of disassembly.
