Problem with K-7 not working in Matrix Metering Mode.

Greetings,

To make it even clearer, when I switch from Spot or CWA Metering to Matrix Metering, Matrix Metering does not kick in and thereby remains in CWA Metering. The switch is

in Matrix Metering Mode and the icon that indicates Matrix Metering is in effect, does not change from CWA to Matrix, not even in the viewfinder. To investigate further,

I took three shots, each in a different metering setting. One turned out okay in Spot Metering, the second turned okay in CWA Metering and the third also turned out okay in

CWA Metering and not Matrix. I was certain to check the EXIF Data on all three images. All this was completed with a dedicated and fully charged Pentax Li-ion battery.

All helpful hints and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Cheers, Tonytee

Matrix metering only works with lenses in A-mode (or ones without an aperture ring )

A possible cause:
The camera will only select Multi-Segmented Metering if you're using a DA, DA-L, D-FA, FA-J, FA, F or A lens and so long as your lens has it's aperture ring set to A (Auto).
Check that your lens is one of those listed and that the aperture ring is set to A.

Actually I am using a third party lens, however it does have the A setting and the Matrix Metering works with it now. The Auto-Focus will not work with it.

Thanks very much.

Unless of course the lens itself is not AF.

Alright, taking the information directly from the front of the lens barrel: f=135mm, AUTO, MULTI-COATED, 1:2.8. I believe you are correct in that it does not indicate

anywhere that the lens has an Auto-Focus Feature. It does have the (A) P indicesess on the stop ring. Thanks again.

Yep, "Auto" on older lenses is because of auto...exposure. It dates all the way back to M42 lenses like the Auto-Takumars.
