SilkyPix vs 10 pro

I just downloaded the new version of Sikypix pro and it keeps crashing on me after I try to edit a picture ? To be clear, the software does not have any problems uploading pictures from folders, but lets say I try to zoom or edit one picture then I get the spinning hourglass. After a while the message: SILKYPIX IS NOT RESPONDING. Has anybody run into this problem ?

Sounds like a resources issue. Did you uninstall the older version first ?

Never have these kind of issues with v10 pro. Very stable. So cannot help you with this issue.

That may be worth a try. Make sure you have a record of your registration number, check in the manual if you need to "unregister" the software first. Uninstal the software, reboot and check for any left over folders. Reinstal.

Is your computer satisfying the spec requirements.

I'm using it fine. Sounds like resources to me as well.

8 GB of RAM is recommended, although the minimum required is 4 GB.

That's not a lot of RAM for a memory-intensive application IMO. I suspect a slower CPU as well given the small amount of RAM.

One way to check...

Load up an SD card with only one subfolder in the DCIM folder. Put only 2 or 3 RAW files there. See how fast that works. If it does then try more files and subfolders until you start thrashing between RAM and the Windows swapfile.

If even 2 or 3 RAW files are slow try a few small jpegs. If that's slow it may be a CPU speed issue.

In any case Silkypix suggests 8 gigs of RAM and to never run in tablet mode.

Must be some type of space issue. I downloaded a folder with no more than 5 Raw pictures and although its still slow its not crashing ?

It may just be slow. Many of my programs on Windows 10 say the are not responding while doing file reads or updates on large or many files. If the program is low on memory it will start using the swap file which will slow down reads and writes even further.

Try opening a folder that only has one file in it.

I gave up. I tried uninstalling the "Pro version", then installing the "Developer Version" it worked a little better, but it still crashed my computer.

I suggest a new computer with a SSD. Install programs on the SSD and store photos themselves on a traditional hard drive.
