But wait! There's more!

The shutter count page works by reading the EXIF meta-data from the image file. The same information and a lot more is available with utilities such as ExifTool. ExifTool is run from the command line and requires some dedication to learn. There is also a user interface, for those who are a little less geeky.

Exiftool is the quickest way:

On Windows:
>exiftool lastknownphoto.dng.pef.Jpg | find /i "shutter count"
Shutter Count : 18308

Awww. Emily Letilla was one of my favourite characters. I still use her voice and that retort when appropriate. The 20 somethings I work with don't get it and just smile condescendingly at me.

Should work on a Mac too, after you have downloaded ExifTool.

To use that it must be a straight out of camera jpeg, unedited. I've used exiftool-k with better results and it works for RAW files as well a jpegs.
