Menu Issues K50

Hello everyone,

New here and am hoping there are some grizzled veterans that may be able to help me.

I have two K50's

Both have really low shutter counts ( under 500 shots each )

Both have the latest firmware updates

Both have a strange issue where certain Menu items are not highlighted so therefore, I cannot access them.

Have tried the reset to default with no success

The frustrating one is on the black K50 is the Custom Image option

Highlighted on the red K50.

Dark on The black k50

Am unsure if I am missing something ?

Some options will be limited depending on the current shooting and/or drive mode. I would make sure that the camera is set to "P" rather than auto, then see if everything becomes available.

The save user mode is not available in scene or auto modes.

The custom image one is a mystery, I can't find a way to replicate it. I will take a look at the manual later, there may be some obscure combination that turns it off.

It is very simple:
Both your K-50's have set the Mode-Dial (on the top) to AUTO !

AUTO is the most stupid mode one can use. The Camera will have to guess what kind of object it sees, which it can't of course.
At least use SCN and then study P-Mode, which is an intelligent Auto-setting but ability to change aperture etc.

"Custom Image" is neither available in AUTO-Mode nor SCN-Mode.

When you select SCN-Mode, the first option in the menu "camera-icon" - 1
is Scene Mode which allows you to change between the 19 different scenes.

Welcome to the forums and I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of your K-50s - I have one and enjoy it. They are capable of stunning images!

Really appreciate your enthusiasm. I also started my photography with Pentax using a K50 but I was 29 years at that time
