I will point out that I am looking for a Pentax HD PENTAX DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED WR , and when I saw the 55 - 300 I right away was thinking Pentax.
I use a Pentax K200 D and am happy with it.
The Pentax K200D is a good camera, the first non-flagship DSLR model to offer the availability of a battery grip and also WR construction. I've had the Pentax HD DA 55-300mm ED WR lens for quite a number of years, used it on numerous camera models, always with fine results. In tests by various labs, the Pentax DA 55-300mm variants have consistently demonstrated superiority over similar lenses by other brands. As to WR, with other brands you'd be shopping in the $1,000 + range for a new camera, and likewise for a new lens having WR of any focal length, but in the much higher $$$$ range for a telephoto type. Some interesting info- I keep this lens even though the faster-AF PLM version has arrived because the quality imaging I've been getting from it has been quite fine, and to top that off, upon getting my KP, I have found its AF speed to now be significantly improved!!
