help 43mm ltd front focus

Hi all Ive been using the Pentax k-1 on a tripod with pixel shift mainly manual focusing .
Recently I have beenusing the k-1 with the 43mm Ltd lens auto focus and noticed most images were front focusing so I used the lens cal chart and did some tests around 4 feet away im still having problems
My settings are
Phase detection afs
af active area spot
afs setting shuttercan not be released until subject is in focus
Contrast detectionaf 5th one down from the bottom small square
Contrast af optionsshutter can not be released until subjects is in focus
af assist light on
ae metering multisegment
Shake reduction on

any help appreciated

will post images on fliker

first image is tripod pixel shift f3.2 separation of subject at f3.2 is superb 3d pop
so tripod live view isnt a problem with the lens next images will be hand held with shake reduction

they may look sharp but if you donwn load them they are pretty poor sharpenss

one thing with the 43mm ltd i do love is the colour and pop but ther lens is really annoying me

The AF/FA menu only works for PDAF, it is not needed for CDAF.

Try with the camera on a tripod and make adjustments until you achieve proper alignment. Do 10 tests at each AF/FA setting change and go with the majority vote. Dont expect 10/10, PDAF is rarely that accurate.

Camera on a tripod. about 6 foot from the test chart you can download and print from here http://www.kscameraclub.org/docs/pdfs/focus_test_chart_edited.pdf. Chart at 45 degree angle. Centre Af point only. Try and use natural light. Use 2 sec timer to avoid camera/tripod shake.

Take 10 shots making the lens work from min/max focus distance each time. Review results and make AF/FA adjustment using the APPLY ONE menu.

Repeat the 10 test shots ..........etc etc.

AF-S is correct

Single centre AF point only

Shake reduction OFF

On a tripod you want SR off.

The distance you choose is always a compromise. 6 foot for a 43mm lens is about right.

Oh and leave the aperture at 1.9

The target (chart) needs to be at a 45 degree angle. Laid back, like on a podium or book stand, with the camera sensor at a 90 degree angle (straight up & down) in relation to the chart.

Andy, may not be an issue, but the 43mm and k-1 combination has been a problem for me with shutter shock, especially between 1/80 and 1/160 sec. Could this be clouding your tests ...?

Hi guys just thought I would post how I got on with the 43m Ltd afterfine tune adjustment .
This is a funny taleas I went out yesterday and took lots of photos got in and resiled Ihadn't inserted a memory card I was fuming LOL
A whole day wasted
Today went out againand I have to say with doing the fine adjustment I am very veryhappy
The 3d pop out of mylens at f3.2 is remarkable I found ISO 400 to be giving me around1/320th second and had no shutter shock .
When I did the fineadjustment I made sure the tripod was level with the chart in my caselens cal
I turned off shakereduction and had aperture at 1.9 wide open around 6 feet away
im actually shockedat how good this lens is once you have learned how to use it properlyit will give you colour and rendition which is lacking in today'slenses
I cant believe howgood it is
Setting I used

Phase detection af AFS active area spot
Af Assist Light On
Ae Metering MultiSegment
Shake Reduction On
Link Exposure AndFocus Points On
AE-L With Af LockedOn
Viewfinder Light On
Change AF ButtonType 2
Af Fine Tune For MyLens Was -9

Some folk have not seen shutter shock with this lens. Sounds like you have. There can be a significant difference in IQ between shutter speeds in/out of the troublesome range.
