77 Limited not focusing

I don't know what happened, but the focus ring on my 77 no longer rotates. Has anyone had this issue or know what may have happened? I'm fairly mechanical inclined, so part of me wants to take the back cover off and see whats inside, however I really don't want to cause any other issues on this.

Good tweezers and a lamp and a magnifying glass. Don't loose any parts.

Bummer! I've had mine for many years with no issues. I would hesitate to take apart such an ultra high-quality, precision lens like this one. Unless someone here has had the same experience with this lens, and knows of an easy quick-fix, it would seem professional service is the best way to go.

I have the service parts diagram of the FA 77 innards somewhere. It is different than other Pentax primes and much more complex than I would be comfortable with diving into.

Found it! Below is a link to the Service Manual page at Pentax Manuals where they provide for download of the FA 77 service parts list and exploded diagram.

There have been various reports of a broken gear in the focus mechanism of FA Limiteds and other similar-vintage lenses. For example:

Repair report - good experience with NSB-Tekunos repair - PentaxForums.com

lens screwdrive gear broken - PentaxForums.com

Broken gear in autofocus - PentaxForums.com

Something like that happened to my DA21 many years ago. A repair shop here took it apart and replaced misaligned pins, and it was as good as new!

The link itself is uncomplicated and points to Pentax Manuals:

Code:
<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.pentax-manuals.com/manuals/service/servicemanuals.htm" target="_blank">Pentax Manuals | Service Parts</a>

...but some forum script may be responsible. Ask Adam?
