Suggestions for 100mm DAW macro f2.8 lens cover with damaged threads

Hi All.

I'm looking for a solution to my damaged 100mm DAW macro f2.8. The very thin thin flange where filters screw in was damaged so much so that a lens cover barely holds on and often falls off. I sent it to Precision for a repair, but they quoted me a price that was 90% of the cost of the lens new so I can't justify a repair (I was pretty miffed actually at the quoted price for what seems to be a simple repair). Anyway, optically the lens is still great. I've seen other 'lens hoodies' but they all seem to fit larger diameter lenses, not a 49mm lens. I could use rubber band to hold something on, but that's less than desirable. I was hoping the collective Pentax experience here might have an answer.

Thanks in advance.

DJS

DAW? D FA or D FA WR?

In any case try getting a filter ring without glass. If it screws in securely enough your lens cap can grab that.

Example:

Some filters have a threaded ring holding the filter in, unscrew it, use as above

Super glue can be very corrosive near plastic and lens coatings. If you want a glue that isn’t going to cause problems I’d suggest some of the thread lockers that aren’t fully permanent.

Then use epoxy. But that would be permanent. Thread locker will never be strong enough.

^^^^^^^This worked very well on two different lenses for me. For only $30, it is certainly worth a try.

There is a thread about fixing a dent where you can't screw a filter on. Try some search terms until you find it.
I recall it requiring hammering against a piece of curved wood until you regain the shape.

It’s unclear how much thread is intact, and a filter ring has a lot of surface area. Honestly even good wood glue could work even though metal isn’t the best bonding surface. This shouldn’t require epoxy - and anything permanent would prevent future repairs if desired. The key is to find the bond that’s enough without being too much that also doesn’t outgas fumes that damage the lens.

If epoxy use is tried then a tiny drop in a couple of places might be removable in the future…

If you want to use glue, this
is a good product to use.

E6000 Clear Permanent Hold Craft Adhesive 1 oz. Glue - Walmart.com - Walmart.com

I used it to modify my DA60-250. Glue is needed to use a new 3d-printed baffle, so it can be used Full Frame.

It is even available in black

Sakura,

That is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thanks!

And thanks to everyone else as well. The part you screw the filters into is 40% gone so I'm going to try this.

You're most welcome; glad I could help. I've used these on my lens for quite some time, and really love them.
