Pentax K70

Trying to use a Manual Focus Pentax 50mm1.7 lens with the K70 I just received and am having difficulty setting up the camera to take pictures. Setting it on manual on the top dial and the side lever but will not fire. I have a Pentax K10d and the manual lens work great on that but the menu choices don't seem to be the same.
Have watched many videos and read articles to no avail? Thanks..... any help would be greatly appreciated. Robert Smith

C24 in the Menus needs to be set to "Enable" if the lens doesn't have an "A" setting on the aperture ring … see page 122 in the manual.
If the lens does have an "A" setting, make sure the ring is set to that.
Good luck

See also Troubleshooting on page 129 of the English manual.

The shutter cannot be released:

1 - There is no available space on the memory card.

2 - The lens aperture ring is set to another position than A.
Menu C4 | Using aperture ring | Enable:
Shutter will release when aperture ring is not set to A.

3 - The Auto-Focus mode is set to AF.S and the subject is not in focus.
Menu Cam 1 | AF with Viewfinder | > | AF Mode | AF.A, AF.S, AF.C

4. When the SD card slot door is not fully closed, or when the little switch near the card is defect.

^^ as above in post #5. You must have "enabled" set in menus for manual lenses having no "A" setting on the aperture ring. Also if you received this K-70 used, it is a good idea to do a reset to default operation.

If you set "M" for Manual on the top mode dial, this is not for setting focus or the firing of the shutter (focus mode and drive mode), this is for determining the mode of exposure. It is for you yourself to set both the aperture and the shutter speed to achieve he exposure you wish for the kind of result you want. However, when using manual lenses that do not have an "A" setting on the aperture ring, the "M" mode on the top mode dial is used along with the green button to set an automated exposure, much as the "P" mode would when operating with an AF lens.

If you set your focus control on the side to M for manual focus, your shutter should fire even if focus has not been achieved with your lens. But, if your camera is not receiving adequate light through the lens, nothing will function normally.
