Miniature Metric Screws Needed

Anyone know of a good source for miniature metric machine screws? I am servicing a 50mm f1.4 Takumar and at some point someone used slotted head screws that have heads that are too large to attach the front filter ring.

Amazon has listings for tons of hardware, but sorting through the inconsistent listings is a chore.

You could try McMaster-Carr, they have everything. But they also like to charge for it.

If there is a watch maker close by you might be in luck there

Second the McMaster-Carr tip. The easy to navigate webpage helps you get the right thing, and you can trust that you're getting the quality required for the application the part was designed for. They don't tend to carry cheap junk.

Thanks for the great leads!! Looks like Metricscrews.US has the best selection.
I measured the OD of the screws I have and they are .055 inch, so If I am looking at the chart I have, I need a 1.4mm screw, correct?

I can't tell you for sure what you need, and you would need to measure pitch to be really sure.
But yes, an M1.4 x .3 screw will measure .055 with calipers on the major diameter.

A company called Tabco Optical appears to have a good selection of small metric screws. The screws I need have a head diameter of 2.0mm, most of the suppliers listed have a good assortment but the smallest head diameter I can find in 2.4mm. Tabco optical has screws with 2.0mm heads

I may check my local optometrist to see if they can help me out.

I hope they can! And as someone else mentioned, a jeweler/watch repair might also have suchlike.
Grinding .5mm off of the OD of a tiny screw head would also probably be doable with home equipment, but I wouldn't want to have to do it!

I will check my jeweler as well. An old establishment that will certainly have a "junk" screw drawer.

It would be difficult indeed to grind material off that tiny of a screw. I'm not sure I have a chuck of any kind that will hold a 1.4mm shaft, and even then it would be difficult.
