Originally posted by steamloco76 I had the trifecta of DA* zooms 16-50/2.8, 50-135/2.8 and 60-250/4. The SDM failed in the first two and were converted by the forum member who advertises the service. I sold the 60-250/4 before it decided to die. The 50-135 actually focuses fasted as screw drive.
The irony of my position is that I haven’t had any sdm failures. I started learning how to do conversions for my 50-135 purchased with non-working sdm. It was from a lot of lenses that were dumped on eBay from what appeared to be the closure of the Pentax office out west. I’m guessing it was refurbished. In any case the sdm woke up and has never failed. My 60-250 also hasn’t ever had issues. The 55 continues to chug along. The 17-70 I once owned is still working for my step-niece. The 16-50 I own is screw drive converted, but it started out that way for me, sdm didn’t die during my tenure as the owner of this lens.
Ironic isn’t it? I’ve converted hundreds of lenses (and practiced on my own lenses) but I’ve never needed my own services.
