Thanks, PDL. Sad thing about the manual ; it doesn't state this. Yes, mine is an IST-DS
VERY glad to have found you all, and to be aboard here. Thanks again to ALL!!!
The manual doesn't provide this information, because it was printed before the istDs was capable of using SD cards bigger than 2GB. The istDs is a great little camera, and I still use mine (with a 32GB SD card), and still get images that make me happy.

The reason this is not stated in the manual is probably that, when the camera was manufactured and the manual written, there were no cards with such high capacities. I had the same issue trying to use 64GB cards in my K20D. My solution was to buy a K3 !

Back again with this whole Card & "memory" problem: Got it up and running finally, using a standard 2g card.
NOW: have the firmware update ready on this card, and it's VERY unclear how it updates in the camera.
I copied the update onto the 2g card, and inserted it into the camera. Instructions are unclear as to what to do next, to make the camera TAKE the update.
BUT good news: I've been able to successfully shoot on the camera. JUST NEED to get the firmware updated.
Any ideas, good friends?
THanks in advance!

Full instructions here: Software Downloads : Support & Service | RICOH IMAGING
Read the "readme.txt" file after you extract the firmware.
