Newbie looking for answers.

Hey all new here to the forum. Looking to tap the knowledge you all might have. I have a k10d and have been trying to get it to work with my studio strobes. I have a set of Interfit Stellar 300's. When I tether these with a sync cable they will shoot once and not fire again. I have to remove the cable and reattach. The trigger voltage on the lights is 4.3v both document and verified with a meter. I am using a generic hot shoe block with a pc connection. A friend came over and tried the block on his Canon and it worked fine. He also had a hotshoe trigger that would do the same thing. We tried his Cybersyncs on it and it worked flawlessly. So right now I dont have the dough for Cybersyncs. What is a proven affordable way wired or not to get these to work?

Hey Rat! Welcome to the forum.

I have the Interfit EXD200 kit, (got it yesterday) and experienced the same problem. The strobes would fire once, and then nothing. I did a bunch of research, and really didn't find anything except some cameras use a thyristor for their sync inputs which is polarity sensitive. Your hot shoe block probably uses the circuits in the camera to close the contact, which could be a thyristor.

Some people had reported (not Pentax users) switching the wires to allow the thyristor to dump it's charge. Well, I cut the sync cord in two, and reversed the wires inside. There was one red and one white, so it was easy not to mess it up Now it works perfect!

I too measure the voltage from the strobe, and found it to be about 4.1vdc. I figured this wasn't enough voltage to do any damage hooked up backwards. And, since they sent two 10ft sync cords, I didn't feel bad about cutting one up. I cut it about eight inches away from the pc connection so the splice wouldn't be near the camera, or on the ground.

Hope this helps,
