Blurry Takumar 105mm F/2.4

Hi All,

I just purchased the legendary 105mm F/2.4 Takumar for my Pentax 67II and it arrived from a dealer in Japan. I purchased the 45mm as well and tested both lenses.

The 45mm works perfectly with surprising sharp rendering. However the 105 F/2.4 seems to have 'reversed' itself - meaning that the infinity focal length is blurry and the shortest lengths - like 40 cm are relatively sharp. And this for a 'tested' and 'mint' lens...from Japan.

I took the 105mm and put it on my Pentax 645 N II with adaptor and had the same results. I check the diopter and everything else I can think of and I am both stumped and disappointed.

Has this happened to any of you?

Thanks,

Tom

I purchased my late-model Pentax 67 105 mm f/2.4 new, locally, and it performs perfectly at infinity on my Pentax 67 II as well as on my digital 645Z with adapter. I include a digital image magnified 2X taken with a 645Z. Your copy may be defective and should be returned to the seller. This is one of the sharpest lenses in the P67 offerings.

Maybe it has been cleaned and an element was reversed.

Lens lay out should be like this:

The rear element would be the most likely culprit

The minimum focusing distance is 100 cm (1 meter) on the P67 105 mm f/2.4. How can it be "sharp at 40 cm" ??

Any chance there is a Marumi or other reducer "close-up" lens on the front where the filter would go? Otherwise likely the lens was reassembled incorrectly.

Have you solved your problem finally ? Is it a close-up lens left on the front of the lens or what ?

Regards
