Pentax Zoom 105 R flash not working

I got this camera this week. Everything seems to be working except for the flash.
I put in fresh batteries, but the red flash ready light just keeps blinking, and the shutter won't fire.
Any suggestions?
Is the capacitor shot? I guess there is no way to fix it if it is.

...no economical way...
Not sure with this one, but many cameras of this era would not do anything if film was not loaded,
Throw a burner roll in it and see what it does.

If the red flash light keeps on blinking it is loading the flash, but hope you did get the right batteries for it and of a good quality. Does it focus?

I do have the right batteries (123-all tested 3.15V).
Red light just keeps blinking.
I can't tell or hear anything when I half press the shutter.
The shutter works fine if I don't try using the flash.
