Not '54. Those bonnet / hood hinge setups are only '55 and '56. And, heater box mounts higher in a '54.
Looks like a 55 Fairlane to me based on the bumper and bumper guards. Also bumper bolts look very similar to the 55.

The catch is that '55 and '56 bumpers are identical. And bumper bolts are same from '55 to '72. So, without the grille or park lights it's near impossible to tell if it's '55 or '56.
The '56 had different stone tray anti-rattle rubber pads to '55 but the rubber parts are probably long gone, so that won't be any help, unfortunately.

Grill or hood or front fenders will tell us for sure, but those are missing. Oh, and dashboard is different between '55 and '56.

Returning from a resupply run on a freshly gradered bush track, came up to a corner a bit too fast and suffered a bit of oversteer, hit the windrow and took a tumble.

I had my first accident when I was 4. My mother’s parents stopped over for a visit, in their 56 Chevy Bel Air. Left it parked in the driveway. My little sister and I decided to play driving. She was the passenger, and I sat in the driver’s seat, holding the wheel, pushing buttons and flipping switches.

At some point I released the parking brake, the car rolled backwards down the driveway, across the street and into the side of a parked car.

Then there were all manner of adults standing about, talking and fussing, and the police came to investigate.

I was not issued a citation.

I actually learned to drive at 12, a tractor on a farm, then in dad’s pickup. Learner’s permit at 15, license at 16.

I estimate I have driven over 2 million miles so far.

As for detail images of cars, trucks and machinery, I sometimes neglect to shoot anything but. Grilles are a favorite.

The car as art.

Great series Clackers!

Yeah, same. Dad had no assistant on the farm, so it fell to us kids to do random driving jobs from time to time. All legal on our property, but of course, some of these tasks were from field to field or back to the house, on public roads.

It would've been a hopeless task to convince anyone we weren't underage. A false moustache wouldn't have worked, I was chin up just trying to see over the window sill as I was steering.
