Pentax k-1 won't tether pcp issue

Hi everyone,

I've had my k1 a little while and getting back in to shooting more and was wanting to shoot tethered for ease as I have a shoot tomorrow.

However, after getting a new tether tools cable, everything plugs in okay and then the camera is basically dead. It says PCP at the top and I basically can't even take a picture on the camera.

On Lightroom it can't find the camera to tether to, I've downloaded the correct plug in and tried different ports.

My pentax is version 1.5, when I checked this was still fine and should tether normally but its no good.

I'm now charging my battery before upgrading to the newest firmware but I'm not sure if its going to help.

If its any use i'm using the new Macbook pro M1 Max. Just wondering if anyone had similar problems? Seems to not be much info out there on this.

did you set the camera usb connection to PTP? wrench menu 2! That you cannot take a picture indicates that you probably have the wrong setting (MSC) because that is meant to make a connection whereby your camera becomes an external drive. See page 87 of the manual.

Yes so it's on all the right settings PTP included, so really unsure what's going on with it!

...just plugging in my Tether Tools cable to LR (Windows) for tomorrow's shoot. Working fine. However, I do have a wonky USB card/socket connection that means I have to make 100% sure it is properly in place and doesn't wobble, if not I don't get a connection to LR. I've tied the USB cable tightly to the body of the camera with fishing line. Possible issue ?

I don't think Pentax cameras are supported for tethered shooting with Lightroom Classic and V6. The list of currently supported cameras only includes some Nikon and Canon models.

Edit - On checking the Tether Tools website I see you need to use the Ricoh supplied LR plugin, Adobe don't offer one.

Not sure I ever installed a plugin.

I've used several different USB cables, settling on the Tether Tool Active USB version. All worked fine, just the Active one was more reliable for a longer cable. I've used this setup over several different versions of LR for 3 years or so.
