Pentak K3 Mark III and Samyang 10 mm T3.1 ED AS NCS CS II - "F" blinking, no function

Hello, maybe someone can help me on this one. I own a Pentax K3 Mark III and have been loaned a Samyang 10 mm T3.1 ED AS NCS CS II manual lens that I may want to buy - if it performs well and works at all.

Because here's the problem I'm having: with the lens mounted, the camera doesn't show an aperture value, but a flashing "F" and an exclamation point.

Is the lens not compatible or is there an error (operator error or lens malfunction)?

Thanks for your help

Pete

two things to check: the lens' aperture ring is set to the 'A', and the camera is set up to allow aperture ring function...

That is a cine lens right ?

From what I can see the lens has no "A" setting or coupling. This means the camera has no idea where the aperture is set to, hence the "F" indication.

This won't be a fault, but to use it for still photography, set Av mode and just set the aperture ring where you want it. The viewfinder will darken I presume.

Thank you very much for your answer. But the 10mm Cine Lens has no "A" setting. All my other manual lenses have it and work fine with the aperture ring set to "A".

Please, where do I allow aperture ring function?

Hi Peter,

yes, this is a cine lens and I want to use it only for astrophotography (skyscapes). I can set it to any mode including Av but the "F" warning stays and the whole camera is dysfunctional. When I push the trigger nothing happens.

Look on page 6 of Menu C for the aperture ring setting. Set it to ON and the shutter will release when a non-A lens is attached.

With lenses dependent on setting aperture using the ring, once you have enabled aperture ring use, set the camera mode dial to the Manual mode. Then choose the aperture you desire, after which you point your camera for the composition you are after, then hit the green button to get the camera to meter-read the lighting and establish the shutter speed for proper exposure.

I believe this lens stops down in real time.... ie the viewfinder will darken as you turn the aperture ring. If that is the case he can use Av mode.

Enabling use of the aperture ring will get rid of the flashing "F". Without an electrical connection to the lens the viewfinder would show "F- -" to indicate that there is no connection. The steady/non-flashing "F" shows that the aperture ring use is enabled. The mark III has a function that allows you to enter in the chosen F-stop but this is for recording purposes (EXIF) only as it does not set the aperture on non-A lenses. Indeed the aperture ring could be set to something different than what you enter in. I'm not sure if the viewfinder will show the value you entered.
