No image data, completely black images

Hey all,

My 645D recently took a turn for the worst when it started capturing images with no data. The image is completely black. At first I thought this may be an aperture block failure but after removing the lens, setting it to manual and 30 second exposure I was able to confirm a few things, firstly that it’s not a shutter sync issue, secondly that the shutter hadn’t failed, thirdly that the mirror was still lifting and lastly that it wasn’t an aperture block failure. Despite 30 seconds of exposure in a well lit room where I could clearly see the sensor, there was still no image. Curious if anyone else has experienced this on a 645D or any Pentax camera.

Some ideas:
And no errors on menu system, no digital filter or other oddities activated (reset?), is there/tested live view on this model?
Is file really no data ( 0 bytes) or like 20 mbyte black pixels? Other sdcard tested?

And you've looked at the files on multiple devices, tried another memory card, and taken the battery out for a hard reset? This just happens periodically or is it now on every shot?

It's all that's happening now, every single image is completely black. I've updated firmware, reset the camera and reset the settings. I've done several battery ejects now as well. Still seeing the same results.

what I'm seeing is a 27mb photo, if I shoot raw and crank the exposure up by 5 stops it remains deep black. There's nothing in the image.

I went ahead and raised the image 15 stops and this managed to pull something from the image.

It looks like the shutter with light from the viewfinder. Is it shooting after the shot? Maybe a 30s exposure will "finish" and then take the 30s shot taking a full minute?

looks like after a 30s exposure it is completely done, no wait for the image, pops up on screen and writes to the card as soon as the mirror and shutter close.

Here's a 30s exposure, you should be able to see the EXIF attached to the image.

Sorry, that's the max resolution the forum was allowing me to upload. There was a lens mounted but it's the manual 55mm f/2.8 so it may just show up without lens data in the exif.

Here's a quick update, the camera seems to show some sign of life today. Took it out of the bag and took a photo, presuming to only see black and we got a small hint of life.

You have to squint the eyes a bit and turn the head but you can just make out two Polaroid Land Cameras, the SX-70 and Auto 215 sitting on wood shelves on a brick wall.

is it possible an extended time without a battery could've caused the caps to deplete or something to that extent? Things seem to be slowly improving but still no usable images.

is it possible this could be a problem from long term storage leading to depleted capacitors or something to that effect? Seems like the situation is slowly improving.
