How do you meter with an older lens?

Is there a way to use the camera's (K10D) light meter with an older lens that has no "A" setting? I can't seem to find a way to do it.

Check out my pictorial guide to using manual lenses on the DPR forum:

K100D (Super) Pictorial guide to using manual lenses

It's written for the K100D Super, but the K10D is essentially the same.

Yes it works the same. Press the green button in M mode.

I've read the tutorial a couple of times and never connected the name between the 2 forums. DUH! Thanks for taking the time to make it.

Do you have this in a Word or PowerPoint doc so that it can easily be downloaded and saved?? I have CRS (can't remember shit) and will soon forget how to do this after I put the AF lens back on.

Sorry, no. You could use your browser's "File -> Save As" option to capture the page, or you could install a PDF printer drive (google: pdf printer driver) and "print" the web page to a PDF file.

I think you'll find the actual process is far simpler in practice than it seems when you read about it. Keep in mind tha once you've set the custom option for using aperture ring you can leave it alone. At msot, once you've tried it out a few times, a little index card cheat sheet with the basic steps (M mode, tap shutter to wake up meter if necessary, hit Green button) should be all you'd need.
