+1 for Aperture.

I've used Picasa in the past, but I've found Aperture to have the perfect blend of power and simplicity. I can produce a much better final product using Aperture to PP, but the time investment isn't nearly as bad as it would be with many other programs.

I'm under Linux and I use F-Spot for my photo archives. It is based on a tagging system which I use for everything I have to do in my shots... for example I use a tag for remind me to crop or to remove red-eye.... I also have tags that represent the DVD-RW where I have a backup of the shot, etc. ... I feel comfortable with it.

I'm using "XnView" to view and organize, great freeware I believe. Like with most software tools there are pros & cons but I feel that you should stay with a software for a while to work with it and understand all the options and capabilities

I also use Lightroom. I have used Picasa, and at work we use photomechanic. As with anything use what works for you and develope your file management system that works for you.
