The suggestion to set the effective focal length rather than the actual focal length is not correct. The length you enter should be 500mm, not 750mm. Using 750mm will cause shake reduction to degrade your image looking for shake that is not there.

Try setting your camera to manual exposure rather than Av. Then press the green button (perhaps AE-L on the K-M?) to force the camera to select the appropriate shutter speed. Other than trying that, I don't know what else you can do except set the exposure compensation as you have done.
