Hey Blommer,

When I first got my *ist DL it wouldn't turn on with the batteries either...but just put the batteries in and give it some time. If not, just get the sellers contact and ask 'em about it...

Regarding the DA kit lens you bought, it would work with other Pentax DSLR's fine.

No dice. I'm returning it for a refund. Seller doesn't seem agitated, I wonder if already knew about the problem...

It's normal to not work with alkalines. It's also entirely entirely possibly your NiMH batteries just don't have enough voltage - as they age, their capacity can diminish. And the fact that they work with other devices is not especially significant - most devices don't demand as high a voltage as Pentax.

The real test is whether the camera works with brand new Energizer Lithium, Sanyo Eneloop or other modern "low self-discharge", or other batteries *known* to provide decent voltage. I wouldn't return the camera if all you've tested it with are alkalines and older NiMH's.
